Short answer

Scaneca captures the body’s surface without contact and fully automatically in around 30 seconds. It creates a 3D avatar with posture, balance and body metrics such as body fat percentage, BMI and FFMI. The device is compact, portable and quick to install. For operators, its strength lies in making progress visible. Its business case depends mainly on repeat scans within onboarding, memberships and programmes.

What is Scaneca 3D body analysis?

Scaneca is one of the 3D body scanners that can quickly demonstrate their value in gyms and longevity centres. Clients can see their progress rather than just reading numbers.

Scaneca is a 3D body scanner that captures the body’s surface without contact and fully automatically in around 30 seconds. The sensor data produces a detailed 3D avatar, a virtual copy of the body that clients can view from every angle.

From the scan, the system derives posture and balance information using distances and angles, as well as body metrics such as weight, body fat percentage, BMI, FFMI and waist-to-hip ratio. Its main benefit for operators is visualising progress: changes become visible over several weeks.

Context for your communication: 3D body analysis in a studio is a measurement and motivation tool, not medical diagnostics. Body fat and fat-free mass are calculated from body shape. Explaining this openly demonstrates competence without exaggeration.

Body metrics at a glance: each value appears on a colour scale, making the results easy to explain during a consultation.

How does a scan work?

The scan itself takes around 30 seconds. For comparable results over time, consistent preparation matters most:

  1. Preparation: close-fitting clothing, hair tied back, shoes off.
  2. Positioning: stand still on the platform, arms slightly away from the body, looking forward, abdomen relaxed.
  3. Scan: fully automatic and contactless, around 30 seconds.
  4. Results: the 3D avatar, posture, balance and body metrics appear immediately.
  5. Discussion: explain the results, agree on a goal and schedule the next scan.

What Scaneca means for space, staff and workflow

Scaneca is compact and portable and can be installed without structural alterations. This makes it suitable for studios, practices and mobile use, such as workplace fitness events. Staff time is needed mainly for the results discussion, which is where the value is created.

We explain the fundamental differences between 3D scanning and bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) in 3D body scan vs. BIA.

The business case for Scaneca

A single scan is easy to sell, but repeat visits are the main driver. These models can be used in practice:

  1. Onboarding scan: included with every new membership as a starting point for a consultation.
  2. Membership component: a repeat scan every four to six weeks makes progress visible and supports member retention.
  3. Programme add-on: before-and-after measurements for weight management, posture or longevity programmes.
  4. Mobile use: workplace fitness days and events, made possible by the device’s portability.

The key question remains: how often does the client return for the next scan? We explain realistic utilisation calculations in The Utilisation Trap: Calculating Break-Even Realistically.

HF Concepts Check: how we rate Scaneca by facility type

In the HF Concepts Check, we score nine criteria from 1 to 5, always for a specific facility type. The same technology can score strongly in one type of business and moderately in another. That is precisely the point.

Our assessment after reviewing the technology, based on typical facilities of each type. No guarantee for any individual case.

Gym: 39/45; Longevity centre: 36/45; Physiotherapy practice: 32/45.

Gym: the strongest setting. Visible progress motivates members, the onboarding scan opens a consultation and repeat scans support retention.

Longevity centre: useful as a measurement component within a programme, ideally combined with HRV measurement to consider recovery alongside body shape.

Physiotherapy practice: useful for posture analysis and as a basis for discussion. Revenue depends on whether scans are offered as a self-pay service.

Frequently asked questions

What is Scaneca?

A 3D body scanner that captures the body’s surface without contact in around 30 seconds and generates a 3D avatar, posture, balance and body metrics.

How long does a Scaneca scan take?

The scan itself takes around 30 seconds and is fully automatic.

Which metrics does Scaneca provide?

Posture and balance information using distances and angles, plus body metrics such as weight, body fat percentage, BMI, FFMI and waist-to-hip ratio.

Is Scaneca a BIA device?

No. Scaneca uses an optical, contactless method. Body fat and fat-free mass are calculated from body shape, rather than measured through electrical impedance.

Which businesses does Scaneca suit?

It is strongest for gyms and longevity centres that repeat scans regularly and include them in onboarding, memberships or programmes.

Is 3D body analysis a medical diagnosis?

No. It is a measurement and motivation tool for training and consultations and does not replace a medical examination.

Transparency: HF Concepts sells some of the technologies discussed here. We therefore assess them against clear criteria and advise against a purchase when the fit is missing.
Note: All information is general and non-medical. The applications discussed are wellness and recovery applications and do not replace medical advice.
